Nurse Blakey Poem by Anon

I came aross this when I was looking for photogaphs to add to this page, it seems to round Mum up in a way that I couldnt. I am not even sure who wrote it just that it must have been when she was first qualified.

This is the tale of dear nurse Blakey,
More popular than “Wakey, Wakey”,
She’s always something up her sleeve,
She’s missed when she’s on leave.

Some seem to think she’s kissed the Blarney,
But she’s as cockney as Kate Carney,
as cheeky as a cockney ‘Sparrer’,
but watch her when she wields that ‘Arrer’.

There’s one thing that seems rather naughty,
She doesn’t want to live to forty.
Pat Ward is proof, I’m pretty sure,
That life begins at eighty-four.

She has no boyfriends, so I’m told,
But why should she fear growing old.
She’s spreading joy the whole day through,
Live on dear nurse and “God Bless You”.
